A fantastic trek that allows you to go all around the Gran Sasso and climb to the top.
I propose you a two-day excursion in the heart of the highest mountain massif of the Apennines, the Gran Sasso, with a two-stage ring trek that allows you to make the complete tour of the mountain and climb the highest peak, the Corno Grande, 2912 m high.
We will walk immersed in one of the most fascinating scenery of the whole Apennines, made of bold mountains whose limestone walls dominate the valleys below, beautiful valleys, veiled with lush forests of beech or other tree species or characterized by vast prairies, plateaus of unparalleled beauty, such as Campo Imperatore, the "little Tibet of the Apennines", the enchanting basin beneath the north face of the Gran Sasso which houses what remains of Europe's southernmost glacier, the Calderone Glacier.
And then the extraordinary views that can be enjoyed from the crests that we will cover and above all from the top of the Corno Grande, vast and exciting. These views reach over a large part of the Apennine chain and as far as the Adriatic Sea. It is no coincidence that the ancient Romans called this mountain Fiscellus Mons, or Monte Ombelico.
