Trekking Tour del Gran Sasso

A fantastic trek that allows you to go all around the Gran Sasso and climb to the top.

I propose you a two-day excursion in the heart of the highest mountain massif of the Apennines, the Gran Sasso, with a two-stage ring trek that allows you to make the complete tour of the mountain and climb the highest peak, the Corno Grande, 2912 m high.
We will walk immersed in one of the most fascinating scenery of the whole Apennines, made of bold mountains whose limestone walls dominate the valleys below, beautiful valleys, veiled with lush forests of beech or other tree species or characterized by vast prairies, plateaus of unparalleled beauty, such as Campo Imperatore, the "little Tibet of the Apennines", the enchanting basin beneath the north face of the Gran Sasso which houses what remains of Europe's southernmost glacier, the Calderone Glacier.
And then the extraordinary views that can be enjoyed from the crests that we will cover and above all from the top of the Corno Grande, vast and exciting. These views reach over a large part of the Apennine chain and as far as the Adriatic Sea. It is no coincidence that the ancient Romans called this mountain Fiscellus Mons, or Monte Ombelico.

Things to bring: We recommend using a 35/40 litre backpack. Mandatory to have (and use) trekking poles. Alpine summer trekking clothing, with at least one fleece sweater, one pair of long trousers, fleece hat and gloves, sunglasses, high protection sunscreen (recommended 50+), cotton hat with visor, Gore-Tex "shell" jacket, waterproof backpack cover, front torch, recommended 1 or 2 liters water bottle to put inside the backpack. A change of underwear-shirt-shorts-stockings. At discretion the use of semi-rigid boots or trail shoes, e.g. La Sportiva, Tempesta or Akyra and the like), with medium-low or low ankle strap, good breathability, paying attention to their weight, because an extra ounce on the shoe corresponds to half a kilo of extra load on the back! The Guide also recommends that you bring a pair of low gaiters for your boots and gaiters for your trail shoes, to prevent pebbles and annoying sand from getting into your shoes. Also evaluate with extreme care the overall weight of the backpack, trying to reduce it as much as possible, leaving at home anything that may be superfluous.
Requirements: The proposed trek is suitable for hikers with good experience and good physical fitness. The overall degree of difficulty is EE. The kilometric distances (even of 15 km), the positive differences in height (even over 1000 m) and the rather high altitudes reached, require preparation and experience. There are no technical difficulties, you can walk on paths and sometimes even dirt tracks, with medium gradients, only at high stretches.
