Official sports coastal navigation licence
Official voluntary licence to drive yachts at sea. The international validity extends to 12 nautical miles from the mainland/baseline. Depending on the area, many charter companies insist on proof of knowledge based on the level of the sport coastal navigation licence. The sport coastal navigation licence as proof of competence is also sufficient for commercial coastal navigation.
For the theoretical examination the subjects seamanship, maritime law, meteorology and navigation as well as a wide-ranging cartography task are required. For the admission to the practical examination, the SBF See (Sport boat driving licence sea) and 300 nm are required. The exam consists of various manoeuvres, sailing different courses to the wind and nautical knots.
