The Maira Valley is one of the wildest areas of the Italian Alps where you can practice ski mountaineering. This is mainly because there are no ski resorts or because heliskiing is not allowed. In this valley, you can make trips even when the weather is not optimal or when the risk of avalanches is high because it has several routes that are safe from avalanches, characterized by pine forests and larch forests. But if conditions allow it, it is also possible to make challenging excursions.
