The ascent to the Matterhorn on the crest of the Lion is a fantastic adventure, unique and unforgettable. However, it requires adequate training and the right timing to be fully enjoyed.
Here is the programme:
Day 1: meeting in Cervinia at 14:30, material control and ascent with the lifts at Plateau Rosa (3400m) where we will spend the night at the refuge Guide del Cervino.
Day 2: we start at dawn to face the half crossing of the Breithorn, a beautiful crossing at high altitude over 4000m where we will reach the 3 peaks of the Breithorn with technical climbing on rock and snow ridges .... breathtaking view of the Matterhorn! Return in the afternoon to Cervinia and overnight in a hotel or b&b.
Day 3: morning ascent by off-road car to the Duca degli Abruzzi Refuge. The actual ascent begins. We reach the hut Carrel (3800m) in about 4 hours and with exciting passages. The hut hovers on the crest of the Lion and is base for our ascent, where we will spend the afternoon and night.
Day 4: ascent to the summit (about 8 hours a/r from the Carrel) and return in the afternoon to the Duca degli Abruzzi refuge, where we will celebrate the summit and spend the night.
Day 5: descent by foot to the village and end of the adventure ....!
