The thousand secrets of the rock
Do you know that not far from the historic center of Arco there is a forest?
We propose a journey back in time to the 20th century with an unspoiled landscape in the background: an easy trek, lasting 3-4 hours, ideal for families, sportsmen and women and lovers of history and nature, who are looking for an opportunity to spend a morning full of fun and new experiences. The forest is located on a small glacial terrace, which hides a multitude of stories and secrets, some of which are very ancient... many of them are linked to the rock...
Route:
During this beautiful walk we will start together from Arco and, after passing the olive groves of S. Martino, we will observe with our nose upwards the climbers on the overhanging walls of the historic cliff of Massone Policromuro, one of the most famous sites for climbing in Arco. We will go back to the foot of the cliffs to discover the oolite quarries, a soft rock and easy to work with for the sculptors, who made works on stone until the beginning of the twentieth century. Here we are in the Caproni wood. It is a wood of holm oaks (Mediterranean oaks), one of the few located at these latitudes, thanks to the mild climate and winds of Lake Garda. Here we find the largest and most fascinating oolite quarries, we can visit them inside and then leave to discover the "whale's back" and the trenches of the First World War. The view over the Sarca valley with its jutting rock walls and the ruins of the mining houses will be the contour of our tour!
