The excursion to the summit craters has as starting point the mountain hut Rifugio Sapienza, on the southern side of Etna at 1900 m above sea level. We will use the cableway to quickly reach an altitude of 2500 m asl., immediately after some big Unimog 4x4s will be able to take us to the starting point of our trekking, at an altitude of 2900 m asl.
The trek to reach the summit of Mount Etna 3345 m asl requires a minimum of experience and good physical fitness. After visiting the summit craters we will descend along a side of the crater made of very fine sands that will simplify the descent, we will pass along the craters of the 2002 eruption. Finally, we will use only the cable car for the return to the Rifugio Sapienza, which takes us back to 1900 m above sea level from an altitude of 2500 m above sea level.
We will try to stay as long as possible in the summit area, in order to better appreciate the volcanic activity and the landscape.
