An easy trip on the water surrounded by the views of the Alps and immersed in the natural reserve of Pian di Spagna. After an initial briefing to guide the canoes, learning to manoeuvre them on the calm waters of the Dascio Lake. We move silently exploring the banks and reeds of the Pian di Spagna nature reserve. Several species of resident and migratory birds nest here, making these marshes a sublime spot for birdwatching. In the early morning or at dusk it is possible to watch deer approach the shore to water (the end of summer is a great time to listen to the roar of deer). The itinerary then continues towards Lake Novate Mezzola, an impressive panorama opens up before us: we have the granite mountains of Val Codera and Val dei Ratti to the north and the rocky cliffs of Lepontine to our left, which drop vertically into this very deep part of the lake. We then reach a hidden bay, where with a little luck we can watch the kingfisher at work. There are some interesting waterfalls and, for those who want to go a little further, the Romanesque sanctuary of San Fedelino, built around the year 1000 on the outlet of the Mera river and imbued with stories and legends, in a forest environment with turquoise waters.
It is an authentic ecotourism experience to explore this lake area "from the swans' point of view"!
Canadian canoes with 2-3 seats, very stable, with life jackets available for all participants. In order to cope with the Covid19 emergency provisions, the middle seat will be kept free, so the canoe is composed of two passengers 2.20 m apart. Organize picnics on the lake, possible both on the pebble beach at the foot of the waterfall and on the lawn in front of the sanctuary of S. Fedelino.
