The Road of Salt

This tour will lead through suggestive military roads/tracks along the Italian-French ridge, to the Ligurian territory and finally, after an interminable descent mainly on dirt roads, to the sea. It follows in part the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri and in part along paths and dirt roads, most of them well signposted, which often follow the ancient communication routes that connected the coast with the Po Valley: these were the "salt roads" that served as connection and trade routes, for those who brought not only salt but also oil and overseas goods from the ports of the coast to the markets of the rich Po Valley.
