We will begin the tour, with a gustatory experience at a very famous bar in Sant'Alfio (CT), a small village at 600 meters above sea level, tasting hazelnut and walnut paste grown here, with a beautiful view of the Ionian coast and the Port of Riposto. We will continue, still in the territory of Sant'Alfio (CT), reliving, with imagination, the lava flow of 1928 and the great miracle that took place in C.da Magazzeni, where there is a beautiful small church, built as a sign of devotion for the miracle received by the inhabitants. We will also talk about the great lava flow of 1669 that concerns the city of Catania and the relative miracle of Sant'Agata, as well as the strong bond around Etna, between faith and Etna itself.
From here we will move towards Piano Provenzana at 1900 meters and we will start trekking. Following the dirt road once used by off-road vehicles, we will visit the ruins of the "Betulle Hotel" (Betulle=birch tree), up to 2,100 meters, at the Bottoniera dei crateri in 2002, which originated after the eruption, called "perfect eruption", which destroyed the station Piano and Provenzana ski and tourist area.
Spectacular is the possibility of walking on the crater rim of these scoria cones, being able to observe the profound transformation of the territory following a lateral eruption, all against the background of the beautiful Ionian coast, Taormina and Giardini Naxos, with a look that reaches up to Aci Trezza, the cradle of Etna.
We will be able to observe the "volcanic bombs" and the degassing ducts of the lateral craters.
Descending again towards the valley, we will take a "sabbione" of volcanic ash that will lead us back to the Piano Provenzana square. After a free tasting of typical products, and a little moment of relaxation and the possibility of buying souvenirs, we will move to visit, with the help of helmets and torches, the "snow cave", a beautiful example of a lava flow cave and ancient niviera of the inhabitants of Etna in the seventeenth century.
