A very suggestive trekking at high altitude among alpine pastures and meadows, rich in nature and wild landscapes, leading to the peak of Monte Altissimo...a spectacular peak! Monte Altissimo is the northernmost offshoot of the Monte Baldo chain, considered the Botanical Garden of Europe. Since 1400 herbalists and pharmacists have walked its slopes in search of plants of various healing properties ... but many other curiosities populate the places of this trek! A cool alternative to hot summer days!
Route:
After a transfer of 45 minutes, we reach the locality of Prati di Nago at an altitude of 1560 m, the starting point of our day. We climb the slopes of Monte Altissimo (2053 m), along the north side. Above the edge of the forest, the wild Val del Parol opens in front of us, where from May to July we will be accompanied by a magnificent flowering of lilies, gentians and orchids! Marmots and chamois are at home here, and it is easy to spot them very close. In addition, numerous limestone slabs rich in fossils make this area of great geological interest. In about three hours of walking (430 m difference in height) we reach for lunch the refuge Damiano Chiesa, along a stretch of the ridge path "Alta Via del Monte Baldo". The top of Monte Altissimo (2070 m), reachable in 10 minutes from the Refuge, is a large panoramic terrace overlooking Lake Garda, perfect for some photos! The descent along the famous path 601 is now waiting for us, which winds between mountain pines and rhododendrons on panoramic ridges, leading us to rejoin the initial stretch of the hike.
