Beginners snowshoe experience, completing the famous pilgrimage to St Bernard's Monastery. Along the way, you'll also visit Barryland - home of the Grand St Bernard dog!
This two-night and two-day experience allows us to have fun and a true outdoor adventure as a group.
We have 20 years plus each experience of running trips in the mountains and living in Switzerland. We are originally English but have lived here for many years. Our team are all UIMLA International Mountain Leaders or UIAGM Mountain Guides. This is an ideal trip to meet new people and have a new experience.
If needed we pick you up at Martigny train station. We will begin by having dinner and appero together and learning about all the equipment we need to be safe in the mountains in winter. We stay in a Dortoir in the valley with an attached bar! It is modern and spacious but we share a room and bathrooms. (you can have your own room for a supplement).
After breakfast the next day we will head out from our base in the mountain valley, to a location that's fantastic for gaining snowshoe skills - learning how to move over the snow with ease. We'll also complete a small journey into the Swiss wilderness, with incredible mountain backdrops. We will also learn about what to do in an avalanche situation and how to avoid one. In the afternoon you'll then visit Barryland - home of the famous Saint Bernard dogs!
We'll return to the hostel for another filling dinner and to review the day.
The next day we will have an early start on the trail to ascend the 3 hours to the Grand Saint Bernard Monastery, where we will break for tea and food with the monks. Afterwards, we'll make a short journey across the Italian border, before returning back into Switzerland and descending back to the valley.
THIS PLAN IS WEATHER DEPENDENT, in the case of really foul weather/ avalanche risk we will undertake an alternative.
You'll be dropped back at the train station to make it home that evening.
