Etna craters of 2002
Interesting excursion on the north side of Mount Etna, one of the most active volcanoes in the world and World Heritage Site from June 21, 2013.
Going up the "Mareneve" road, you will be fascinated by the sudden changes offered by the various cultivations and spontaneous vegetation.
In the lower part, there are vineyards, olive groves and hazelnut groves. Continuing the ascent you can admire the wonderful Mount Etna Broom (Genista Aetnensis), the holm oak, chestnut, downy oak, turkey oak and larch pine (Pinus Nigra) that with its imposing and secular specimens forms the wonderful Ragabo Pinewood.
In 2002 an eruption called "perfect", crossed and burned a considerable portion of the Ragabo Pinewood and destroyed the historical tourist resort of Piano Provenzana.
This excursion will allow us to admire the different "bottoniera" crater flows that were created during this eruption.
We will visit many green areas that have remained unharmed, including a splendid beech forest.
Along the path, about 5 km long, we will find a series of adventitious volcanic cones and pyroclastic material, including volcanic bombs.
