Like the bow of a giant rocky ship the Veleta peak rises above Granada city, drawing our attention and asking us for climbing to its summit. This is perfectly possible - even for the less experienced mountaineers and hikers - from the ski resort of Sierra Nevada. Starting at the upper ski station (at 2.500 m high) the height gain to the summit is less than 900 meters. The gentle are adequate for those with less experience and provide a riskless ascent, being the high altitude, the only handicap of this outing. The normal route follows the limits of the Sierra Nevada National Park with the ski resort, but the views and sensation of an authentic alpine experience are guaranteed. From the top, there are beautiful wide 360º views over the Mediterranean Sea, the Alpujarras and the city of Granada. This activity offers a very nice experience for those ones who want to have a first experience with winter mountaineering and alpinism. We provide all the technical equipment needed.
