Between nature and medieval villages!
A quiet excursion suitable for everyone, between country roads and ancient mule tracks. Canale di Tenno is one of the most beautiful medieval villages in Italy and Lake Tenno is a real natural jewel, set like a diamond in the woods! The atmosphere is relaxing and involving. The olive groves and vineyards that surround the villages frame Lake Garda like a postcard.
Route:
We cross the streets of the village of Tenno, leaving behind the majestic castle, and quickly reach the countryside, passing through the terraced vineyards along a comfortable mule track. This connects Tenno to Ville del Monte and Canale di Tenno, a magnificent medieval village, with its alleys, caves, gates and taverns, where we can treat ourselves to a short visit and time to sip a coffee! Leaving Canale, after about 20 minutes, we reach Lake Tenno (570 m), a beautiful stretch of turquoise water nestled between the wooded slopes. Impossible not to stop for a refreshment and some photos!!! We return briefly on our steps up to Canale, and from here we reach the village of Calvola, with its fountains of clear water. We return to Tenno along an old mule track downhill through the countryside, which leads us directly to our starting point.
Highlights:
- Canale di Tenno: it is recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Of medieval origin (12th century), today it is perfectly preserved and attracts many visitors. Its history tells of abandonment and return, first because of the plague, then because of work, which has led many inhabitants to live elsewhere. In the 60s some artists started to repopulate the old stone houses, giving new life to this beautiful village. Today, local artists and craftsmen exhibit and sell their works to visitors.
