Spigolo Ovest - Sass d'Ortiga

Magnificent route that stands out for its aesthetics, elegance and quality of the rock. It is certainly one of the most popular routes of the Val Canali and has nothing to envy to the most famous Spigolo del Velo. From the Treviso Refuge, we climb up to the Forcella delle Mughe following path no. 720. From the pass, we turn left towards the SW wall of Sass d'Ortiga, along a narrow ledge marked with red stamps, until we reach the pass between Sass d'Ortiga and Punta del Rifugio. Just before the pass, we follow an oblique chimney to the left until we reach a ledge; from here we cross to the left, taking us to the N side, and we continue vertically for 80 m until we reach the edge of the ridge, which we cross obliquely to the right of a chimney that leads to the top of a pillar. Now we take another 3 lengths along the edge of the corner until we reach the top of the large detached pillar. We continue towards the opposite side of the carving, walking on the characteristic stuck rock. We pass the next plate (key section) along a slender slit that leads to a comfortable ledge. Another couple of easier lengths will take us to the summit. To descend, we head southeast, following the tracks and the signs, we gradually bend southwards, keeping just to the left of the ridge. Descend a more difficult climb and continue along easy mixed grass rocks to the forcella delle Mughe. Then continue along path 720 to the Rifugio Treviso.
