Day 1: Bellwald - Fiescher Glacier - Burghütte
Distance: 7.7 km. Ascent: 699 m. Descent: 520 m. Hiking time: 2 h 45 min.
From the top station of the Fürgangen-Belwald cable car, 1566 m a leisurely walk past the typical Valaisan houses to the end of the village. Via Wang 1636 m asl we master the crisp descent to the Aschpi-Titter suspension bridge 1550 m asl. This 160 m long and 120 m high bridge spanning the Weisswasser gorge promises an adrenalin kick of a special kind. In the middle of the bridge, we enjoy the fantastic view over Fieschertal and the Valaisan mountains all around.
We master the ascent to the Burghütte 1736 m asl. with bravura. After a short stop in the Burghütte, we take the descent to the Fiescher glacier 1700 m. (Only in dry weather) The alluvial landscape that awaits us here is captivating due to the special climate in this narrow valley. The glacier tongue of the Fiescher Glacier is dominating the back of the valley. The glacier stream meanders gurgling into the various lakes, between the scree slopes of the lateral moraines. The constant change of this alluvial landscape through ice, water and erosion is omnipresent.
After the ascent to the Burghütte, we enjoy our well-deserved dinner and settle into our dormitory.
Day 2: Burghütte - Lake Märjelen - Bettmeralp
Distance: 15 km. Ascent: 1011 m. Descent: 959 m. Hiking time: 5 h 30 min.
After breakfast, we start the wild ascent to the Märjelen lake 2360 m and hike in the plain of the Gletscherstube to the natural Märjelen lake 2302 m. Here we see the Great Aletsch Glacier 2266 m. The gigantic panorama of the largest ice stream in Europe makes us pause for a moment. At the foot of the Eggishorn the glacier escorts us past the Chatzulecher to Punkt 2290 m where we look back once more. Over alpine meadows past the small lakes to the lake Bettmersee 2009 m down to Bettmeralp 1924 m where we enjoy the panorama of the fantastic alpine world of Valais one last time. With the cable car, we float back down to the valley.
