The Piz Palü is certainly one of the most famous mountains of the Alps. The classic perspective from the Diavolezza with the three pillars rising directly from the Cambrena glacier is probably also known by non-alpinists. And every alpinist who appreciates combined routes will probably have to climb up there at least once.
The east pillar is the "easiest" of the three ridges and has a maximum climbing difficulty of IV°. After the ascent over the Cambrena Glacier, the route leads in a wonderful climbing in a direct line first over rock, then over a firn and ice ridge to the eastern summit of the Palüs. The subsequent crossing to the main summit is then just a simple affair. The descent back to Diavolezza is via the normal route.
1. Day: After our meeting, we will take the cable car to the mountain hut Diavolezza (alternatively also by foot). Then we will discuss the daily schedule and check the equipment.
2. Day: After passing the Piz Trovat, we walk the first meters of altitude through the Cambrenabrüche, but then we leave the normal ascent to the Piz Palü. We climb up the east pillar to just below the east summit. This variation is scenically excellent and the climbing is very rewarding and smooth. (approx. 1100 m altitude difference approx. 6 hours) Descent via the normal route (approx. 3 hours).
