Hiking the Marmarole massif and Tre Cime di Lavaredo

Explore and discover with me one of the most beautiful regions in Italy – the Dolomites and the Cadore Valley on a 4-day hiking trip. We hike along beautiful and breathtaking mountain paths, and stay in charming and traditional mountain huts along the way, sharing a unique experience.

On this trip, we follow the Marmarole hiking circuit. This will take us across different types of terrain, from narrow mountain paths to forest paths and gravel roads.
We spend around 5 to 8 hours hiking each day. Along the way, we enjoy the scenery of green high mountain pastures, panoramic vistas, enchanting Dolomite peaks, beautiful waterfalls and forests. These are exactly the landscapes you do not want to miss.

Day 1:
We take a ski lift ride in the town of Auronzo. Then we begin a panoramic hike through forests and pastures in the first section. We then follow the foothills of the beautiful Marmarole massif. During this section of the hike, we gain 600 metres of altitude, enjoying hiking through mountain scenery before arriving at the mountain hut Rifugio Chiggiato where we spend the night.

Day 2:
We start the day with a downhill walk in woodlands. We then go 900 metres uphill on a narrow path to Rifugio Galassi and Forcella Piccola from where we enjoy panoramic views across the foothills of the Marmarole and Antelao massifs, the latter being named the king of the Dolomites. In the evening we stay at Rifugio San Marco.

Day 3:
Day three begins with an uphill hike on a mountain path with extensive views of valleys to Forcella Grande. Then we descend on narrow paths and explore more valleys, waterfalls, mountain streams and forests like the beautiful Foresta di Somadida protected natural reserve. At the end of the valley, we continue cycling leisurely all the way back to Auronzo di Cadore, across the stunning scenery of the Ansiei valley.

Day 4:
We finish our trip with a hike to the most famous Dolomites peaks, the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, the mountains considered the symbol of the Dolomites Unesco World Heritage site. The hike takes us on wide gravel tracks and rocky mountain paths, giving us spectacular and breathtaking views and plenty of opportunities for taking pictures and enjoying nature.
