Pica d'Estats, 3.144m. Highest point in Catalan Pyrenees.

La Pica, with its 3,144 meters of altitude, is the highest peak in Catalonia. It is located between Pallars Sobirà and Arieja.

It is a summit that has no easy or comfortable access path, from any of its hillsides you have to overcome a steep slope and mileage. That is why it is a highly sought after mountain by hikers and mountaineers.

From Pas Ferm we propose you to make the ascent for the Ariège, overnight at the Pinet shelter and parting the ascent in two days. We believe that it is the best way to savour and enjoy the fact of climbing to the highest peak in Catalonia, La Pica d'Estats.

This summit is included in the list of the 100 summits of the FEEC.

Itinerary:
Day 1
We will start the route in the parking of the Artigue, the road begins flat along the river. Gradually the forest is cleared and we will reach the Orris of Pla Nouzere.
The slope hardens and the path is making loops to overcome the unevenness. We will pass the Sourd Lake and finally arrive at the Pinet refuge, where we will spend the night.

Day 2
We will leave the refuge early in the morning and follow the course of the valley until we reach Estany d'Estats. From this point, the slope will accentuate and we will climb upwards, gaining height quickly.
We will pass through Montcalm Lake and climb up. The slope will not give us any peace at all, but the spectacular landscape that surrounds us will help us to move on.

Once we have the summit of Pica in front of us, we will only have to climb the last shovel and we will be at the highest point in Catalonia. We will have reached the summit of La Pica d'Estats.

The descent we will do the same route.
