The hike to the summit craters starts from the Rifugio Sapienza, on the south side of Etna at an altitude of 1900 m above sea level. For our excursion, we use the cable car up to 2500 m and immediately after the 4×4 buses to reach the starting altitude of our trekking, at 2900 m above sea level.
The trekking to reach the summit of Etna 3345 m, is not demanding but requires a minimum of experience and a fair amount of fitness. After the visit of the summit craters, we continue downhill passing through the side craters of the eruption of the year 2002 and its magnificent channel of flow. For the return trip, only the cable car will be used, which from 2500 m brings us back to 1900 m.
